Hoaxes and Inactive Notices

HOME

I can't understand why anyone would make up a hoax... But I do understand why they get passed along. It is because people for the most part want to help when a child is missing. They like me, find it hard to believe that anyone would make up a hoax about a missing child. As hard as it is to believe, it happens. This is one of reasons that before we send any alerts or notices for a missing child we first check with the law enforcement agency that is handling the case, plus we also require permission from the custodial parents. I know that this might be over kill but it is just our policy. We also do this for some reasons other than just to keep from forwarding any hoaxes, like we would never want to harm an on going investigation. To view our policy on the verication process, click here.

But I feel if the average person would just take a minute and check with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children http://www.missingkids.org/ to see if the case is listed or email it to us and we will check it out, and let you know. It might help cut down on the hoaxes.
One more thing if you know of any missing child hoaxes or just received an email concerning a missing child, please let us know so we can check it out..

Thank You,

Dean Powers

We have received a lot requests for information on a email that is making the rounds. Below is the reply that I have been sending out.

Hello,
We have been trying to check this one out. So far we have not been able to find ANY information out concerning it. Their is no contact information for law enforcement, NCIC Number, and have not been able to find it listed in the NCMEC Database. So till then we are not saying that it is active or even a
real case.
I have sent an email to the "mother" and it came back, no user by that name.
I will keep checking it out.
Thanks
Dean
>> > >I am asking you all, begging you to please forward this email on to anyone and everyone. As most all of you know, I have a 5 year old daughter named Kelsey Brooke Jones. We are from Southern Minnesota. She has been missing since 4pm Oct.11, 1999. The police were notified shortly after. If anyone anywhere knows anything, sees anything, pleeeeaaaase contact me if you have my number. The police don't recommend I put my number online, but you can contact the Police, a missing persons report has been filed. I am including a picture of her. All prayers are appreciated. Thank you, Amy
