How We Came To BeThis 4thekids MISSING KID SERVICES was the dream of our co-moderator Patty Beeken. Patty's daughter was missing a few months ago and we were able to get all kinds of help thanks to the Internet. We contacted a local church in the town where we believed she had gone. We found the church by doing a search for web pages in that city. We were able to send them fliers which members of the church put up for us. We also found some great printing businesses that would print fliers for free and even checked into finding a couple of trucking firms willing to drop off fliers to be picked up at a truck stop. I made a web page and we sent it out over our ICQ contact lists and asked for them to forward it on. We had over 10,000 hits over one weekend alone. So after Patty's daughter was found we got to thinking about the powers of the Internet. Wouldn't it be great if we had something like this in place so anyone that needed help could access it. The 4thekids MISSING KID ALERTS Project is one of the main projects for
our organization. When we get a case we first verify it with the custodial parent or
guardian and the Law Enforcement Agency that took the first report. After we verify that
it is an active case and that by our sending out a notice would not harm an on going
investigation we start to work. Mission StatementThe mission of 4thekids is an easy one. It is our mission to help missing children and their families in anyway that we can! With the help of our members, volunteers, and supporters we will try to offer any help that we can to families, Law Enforcement, and Non-Profit Groups working with Missing Child. Our help is not limited to but includes the following projects. Free Web Page (web fliers) design for missing children. Internet notices via the 4thekids Missing Kids Alert System of verified notices* of missing children. Assistance with the distributing of fliers of missing children. The gathering and sharing of resources and information using the 4thekids E-mail List. Plus other projects that are under development at this time. *We will make every effort to only distribute verified notices. All notices except for
the ones sent directly to us from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
(NCMEC) must meet our verification process. Yet even with the steps that we take to verify
the notices we cannot be held responsible for any errors. (After all children are returned
home, THANK GOODNESS!) |
